The Children's Museum In Edwardsville Receives Donation From JSC

Members from the Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon today presented the Children’s Museum in Edwardsville with a $750.00 donation to support the Museum’s educational programming.

The donation will be used to underwrite the Children’s Museum’s educational programs that reach over 3,000 children ages 18 month to 12 years old each year.  These programs include Preschool Playgroup, Field Trips, Outreach Programs, and Summer Explorers program.

In the 2011-2012 school year, the Museum’s Preschool Playgroup welcomed over 60 toddlers and preschoolers along with their caregivers into the Museum on Monday mornings to learn their ABC’s, 123’s, colors, shapes, and more.  The Museum’s field trips brought over 80 school groups to learn through exploration and from our guided lessons taught by the Museum’s educators. The Museum’s Outreach programs brought those guided lessons to over 15 schools that could not afford transportation costs to bring their groups to the Museum.  The Summer Explorers program brought to life many of our exhibits for the 135 children that attended.

“The Museum is very thankful for the Junior Service Club’s continued support of our mission.  They recognize the value our Museum brings to the community and we appreciate their generosity,” said McKenzie Breihan, president of the Museum’s Board of Directors.

“The Club is excited to support the educational programming the Children’s Museum offers.  Their programs reach so many area children, we are happy to help,” said Kristi Hyten, public relations chair of the Junior Service Club.

Since opening its doors in the historic Leclaire neighborhood in 2003, the Children’s Museum has become known as a destination for field trips, programs, camps, and family fun.  The Museum’s exhibits include Star City, which offers countless adventure through a child sized community, including a market, café, library, police and fire stations, TV studio and medical center.   With support from generous donors like the Junior Service Club, the Museum is able to create new exhibits, expand current programs, and serve over 12,000 visitors from the Metro-East area every year.
