The 16-year-old sophomore at Collinsville High School loved the long, beige dress with spaghetti straps and black and pewter beadwork. “I feel like I would wear it in college,” she said. “I want to join a sorority. It’s so elegant. But I feel really pretty in this one.”

Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Win Governor's CupSPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced the winners of the 32nd Annual Governor’s Hometown Awards. The awards are presented to recognize volunteers across the state for their work in improving their communities and recipients were honored during a ceremony at the Illinois State Library in Springfield. The Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon, along with Edwardsville Township, was selected as the 2014 Governor’s Cup award winner, recognizing the state’s top community volunteer effort. The Governor’s Cup is a traveling silver trophy presented to the group whose efforts are deemed most representative of the spirit of Illinois volunteerism. The Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon, presented a check in the amount of $1,309 to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Hospice of Southern Illinois is a not-for-profit organization that provides specialized care services to patients at the end of life, in their own home or a home-like setting regardless of the patient’s age or ability to pay. Hospice of Southern Illinois is one of many local organizations to receive donations from the fundraising efforts of the Junior Service Club. All money raised throughout the year stays within the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon community.
