Members from the Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon today presented the Faith Coalition in Edwardsville with a $1,420 donation for their work in our local community. Faith Coalition ministries include Restore Décor and Blankets for Friends (B.F.F.) and focus on disaster relief on an individual, local and national level. The donation is a combination of a $1,000 grant from JSC and $420 that was raised by the JSC from an item that Restore Decor donated to the JSC’s annual Black & White Gala in February. JSC is donating the proceeds raised from the auction item back to the Faith Coalition. Faith Coalition started in 2011, after Joe Russo & Greg Erspamer met on a mission trip to Joplin, Mo, where they were cleaning up & repairing damage from the devastating tornado in that town. They were impressed by the spontaneous outpouring of support for people in need, & wondered what could be achieved if Christians organized and prepared throughout the year to address disasters like this one,AND to serve ongoing local needs in our communities. And so Faith Coalition was born. Their mission isto be Christ's hands and feet in our local community and beyond. Our goal is for our area (Edwardsville/Glen Carbon, IL) community of churches, united through Christ, to be one body with many members in selected common missions. www.facebook.com/FaithCoalitionEdwardsville Restore Décor is a resale and consignment shop for gently used furniture and home accessories. In short, they are the fundraising arm for the Faith Coalition. They welcome donations of gently used furniture and home accessories, as well as volunteers who are willing to paint, sew, decorate, move furniture, work in the shop and re-invent items such as the bench that was donated to the JCS Black &White Gala. 100% of the net proceeds from Restore Décor support the Faith Coalition. www.facebook.com/restordecoredwardsville (The bench started its life back in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s as an Empire Style ¾ size bed. Over 100 years later, it was purchased at an auction in Anna, Illinois, but was never assembled or used due to its odd size and state of disrepair. Finally, the owner donated it to Restore Décor in the hopes that it would be given a new life.)
