Just over one year ago, more than 400 volunteers from the communities of Edwardsville and Glen Carbon came together to help build the Boundless Playground in Township Park.
Now, the Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon is planning a birthday party to celebrate this gift to the community, according to a press release. The celebration will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. May 10 at Township Park, which is located at 6364 Center Grove Road, in Edwardsville. The free event is open to the public and will include face painting, balloon animals, a DJ, snacks and more. The JSC Boundless Playground is 80 percent accessible to persons with disabilities and is the first public playground of its kind in the St. Louis area. It was a signature project of thew JSC and funds were raised three years prior to completion. The JSC is also announcing plans to fund a new playground at Ray M. Schon Park in Glen Carbon. The club voted to fund up to $75,000 for the purchase of playground equipment. "We are honored and blessed as a club to be able to provide yet another playground to this community," JSC President Julie Smith said in the press release. "The support to the Junior Service Club by so many individuals and businesses in the area has made a project like this possible." The playground will be built as work on Phase II of Ray M. Schon Park gets underway. "The Junior Service Club continues to do wonderful things for our Glen Carbon and Edwardsville communities," Glen Carbon Mayor Rob Jackstadt said in the press release. "On behalf of all village residents, I want to thank the JSC members for donating the playground equipment that will be enjoyed by so many."
